Vintage arcade games. Skee ball. Power ballads belting from the juke box.
As a child of the 80′s, those things alone make my little heart want to burst.
But what was that you say? You think The Max – downtown Tulsa’s hot, new retro pub – should also have a phone booth straight from a Superman movie?
Oh, yeah. They got that, too.
On the night of the grand opening last week, the street was not only lined with the masses, but I also caught glimpses of some Ghostbusters, a Delorean and a talking car.
Don’t believe me? The proof in the pictures.
Tasha’s Note: The Max Retropub is a bar, sure, but also available is a selection of what’s being called gourmet junk food. Here’s a sampling:
The Perfect Stranger: A classic Chicago Dog with diced onion, tomato, sport peppers, celery salt and a pickle;
The Tony Micelli: Italian sausage link with red sauce, mozzarella, black olives and mozzarella shred;
Who Shot J.R.?: A beef frank, bacon crumbles, BBQ sauce, chopped onions and jalapeno peppers;
The Hoff: Bratwurst, green apple kraut and German mustard on a poppyseed bun.
And that’s just a small part of the hot dog portion of the menu. Also on tap are nachos, popcorn, pretzels and Frito chili pie.
In other words, it’s what we ’80s kids always hoped for in our cafeteria lunch selections. You know, back in that place we made – with the help of John Hughes, of course – into an American institution: Junior high school.
