Tulsa State Fair Food: Corn Dogs, Funnel Cakes and Fried Fun On a Stick

Posted by Tasha on September 11th, 2010 in Food

Just in case you see me out and about today and you’re wondering why I look so bloated and why my skin is slick with a sheen of grease and why I smell of fried cornbread batter, I’ll just tell you.

Because last night, I ate this.

A foot-long, freshly battered and fried corndog. With lots of mustard.

And a few slices of chocolate-covered cheesecake on a stick, covered in nuts. And hot wings. And beer. And funnel cake.

And cheese on a stick, my favorite fair food of all time.

No, the fair hasn’t rolled into town yet. That doesn’t happen until the 30th of this month.

Last night was the 2010 Corn Dog Kick-Off, a Friends of the Fairgrounds fundraising event at Expo Square. A big part of the annual event is a preview of the food that’s going to be at the fair that year.

This is one way to do it: Dress people up to look like the food, hand them some balloons, put them on roller skates and send them for a few rounds around the Pavilion.

Another way is to offer the food for free to anyone willing to wait in line for it.

The line for corndogs was…

Kinda long.

It is the most popular food at the fair, after all.

But, who can complain when this is at the end?

Dudes. I can’t wait for the Tulsa State Fair.

On what are you going to gorge yourself at the fair this year?

See you at the fair :p … It’s gonna be grubin!

I wonder if there is going to be any new foods. I hear (Just a rumor) that we might see Krispy Kream Burgers. Wouldn’t that be dreamy!
