Blue Moon Cafe: From the Breakfast Files

Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day, bar none. I made a recent discovery that has managed to improve my already stellar opinion of the morning meal: The breakfast business meeting.

I met my friend and local journalist Holly Wall and her son, who’s just a few months younger than another blonde, blue-eyed two-year-old you’re used to seeing here at TDT, at Blue Moon Cafe one morning to discuss some story ideas for Tulsa Business Journal, and I’ve gotta tell ya, the breakfast meeting is the greatest thing ever invented. First, there’s no interrupting your morning or afternoon productivity with traveling and sitting through a meeting.

Second, there’s breakfast. Enough said.

And for working ladies like Holly and me, it’s nice to be able to bring our kids along. It’s like a built-in play date.

And if you’re wondering if the quality of our meeting takes a hit by our having our kids at the table, you can just forget it. Because we moms, we’re magicians. We can plan a newspaper section, spread peanut butter on pancakes and pour chocolate milk at the same time.

Holly’s about to surpass any of my child juggling abilities, though. She has another one due in December.

Someone’s about to get schooled.

Blue Moon Cafe is a choice spot for the kids-included breakfast meeting. I wouldn’t sit inside, though – the concrete flooring can make for a loud dining room when children are along for the ride – but the patio seating, right alongside a sleepy Brookside, is better anyway.

Plus, the food is mighty tasty.

Mmm…migas. One of my most favorite breakfast dishes.

The only problem is deciding what to order.

Blue Moon Cafe is a unique place. It moved to the Center 1 shopping strip not long ago from further south on Brookside, and while sometimes Center 1 venues can seem stark and cold, Blue Moon has maintained much of its down-home feel.

And I love all the different salt and pepper shakers. So colorful.

There’s the sign from the south Brookside location.

And here’s its new home on the corner of 35th and Peoria.

Blue Moon made the move quite successfully, I’d say.

With my mouth full, of course.

I never went to the old location, but I have been to this one a couple of times. Love their french toast.

My sister and have a standing breakfast date every Saturday morning. We typically rotate between the following places:

    Blue Dome Diner
    Panera
    Chicory & Chives
    Old School Bagel
    Dilly Deli

I’m going to have to say that Blue Dome is my favorite. It’s the chocolate chip pancakes and bacon.

Blue Moon was great the one time I went there (for lunch) and seemed to have a wide variety of vegetarian options which was helpful. The veggie burger was phenomenal.

Recently, favorite breakfast spot has been the Dilly Deli in the Blue Dome district. Best hash browns I’ve ever had.
