Rowe, Rowe, Rowe Your Vote: A Different Kind of Campaign

Posted by Tasha on November 2nd, 2010 in Culture

By now we’ve all received dozens of fliers and phone calls from multiple candidates running for office in our legislatures as well as from proponents and opponents of this or that state question.

But in downtown Tulsa tonight, there’s a different kind of campaigning going on.

For one, it’s for a different race – that of the 2010 Tulsey Awards, an off-shoot of the Tulsa Entrepreneurial Spirit Awards in which each and every Tulsan has the chance to vote for his or her favorite entrepreneur. Think of it as the People’s Choice Awards of the Tulsa ESAs – rowdier, more casual and, yeah, perhaps even more fun, depending on whom you ask.

One of the nominees for a Tulsey Award, Rusty Rowe of Mod’s Coffee and Crepes, is campaigning like I’ve never seen any other candidate for the award campaign before: He has recorded nearly a dozen videos stating his case, and they’ve been proliferating on YouTube and around Tulsa’s corner of Facebook to the degree that they have, at least locally, gone viral.

In case you haven’t seen them already, here they are, in order – and yes, at less than 1:30, each is worth every bit of your time allotted for procrastination on this Tuesday morning. Be sure to tell me which is your favorite in the comments – I think I like the eighth one the best.

Number One:

Number Two:

Number Three:

Number Four (starring international man of mystery Steve Cluck):

Number Five (starring Dwelling Spaces owner and downtown celebrity Mary Beth Babcock (and her precious dog, Molly)):

Number six (starring the “raging success” Blake Ewing of Joe Momma’s, Boomtown Tees and The Max Retropub fame):

Number Seven (starring Libby Auld, owner of Elote Cafe):

Number Eight (starring pretty much the best campaign tagline ever, Rags to Riches, B!#@&*S):

Number Nine:

Number Ten (uploaded just this morning):

So, that campaign party hazelnut syrup-drunk Rusty was talking about? Here are the details:

Rowe, Rowe, Rowe Your Vote Campaign Party

When: Tonight, Nov. 2, starting at 8pm

Where: The Max Retropub, 114 S. Elgin Ave.

Meet the man himself and play free Skee-Ball at the same time? Sounds like a deal to me. And I heard the Golden Driller himself is gonna be there. I guess he’s willing to make an appearance in exchange for seeing the last and final and super-double-secret-probation edition of the Rowe, Rowe, Rowe Your Vote campaign videos, which is just another feature of this event.

Whether or not you can make the party, be sure to check out the voting page over at TheTulseys.com. As a Tulsey winner myself (no joke – TDT beat out the infinitely more worthy Phillips360 and Ping.fm in 2009), I’ll say that each and every one of the 2010 nominees are worthy of your consideration. A few of Tulsa’s bloggers are up for awards, too, so be sure to keep them in mind as you cast your votes.

You can vote once per day, y’all, so vote often for your favorite Tulsa businesspeople, starting today.

And one more thing: Rags to Riches, B!#@&*S!

Sorry. I just couldn’t help myself. Whoever wrote that line totally gets me.

I was voting for Rusty just because I like Mod’s, but now, knowing he’s buying votes with free gelato and he owns lots of Tulsa themed t shirts just makes me even happier to vote for him.

Yeah yeah yeah, Rusty, we know what you’re saying. While I won’t take a free gelato from you, I’d gladly by the largest size as a thank you for producing such hilarious videos.
