Tulsa Oilers: Family (and other kinds of) Fun on Ice
Posted by Tasha on December 6th, 2010 in Kids and Families, Sports
Where else can the average T-Town Joe get $2 beer, cheerleaders on ice and a good fight, all at one place and at one time, and all in an environment that’s kid friendly?
There’s really only one option, and it’s at the BOK Center, and it’s on $2 Tuesday with the Tulsa Oilers.
There are so many reasons to love hockey. The fast pace. The skill the ice requires. The fights. The uniforms.
The players underneath the uniforms.
If I hadn’t found a rugged, super-studly ex-sniper turned geologist to marry, I think I would have liked to marry a hockey player.
But you didn’t hear that from me.
Our son appreciates a good fight as much as the next guy.
Even though he’s not the one annoying other game-goers with his shouting of “fight, fight, fight!” every two seconds.
Nope. That was me. But he stole my burger from Billy’s at the BOK, so he lost his vote that determines how Mom gets to behave in public.
It wasn’t long before my husband nudged me, nodded across the rink and said something along the lines of, “Hey, honey – did you bring your telephoto lens?”
And what do you know, I did.
Whoever that guy is in the first picture, he seems pretty happy to me.
Even though we don’t know as much about hockey as we probably should, we were happy to be at the game, too. That we beat Quad City helped.
If those aren’t the faces of two people happy to be somewhere, then I don’t know what is.
If you go to the game tonight, know that it’s $2 Tuesday. That means that all beer and soft drinks are discounted to $2.
Now a dinner at the BOK Center doesn’t sound half bad, does it? Park once, walk once, baby. $2 beer helps it happen.
The Oilers are on a winning streak as of late. They’ve won five out of their last six games, and they have a homestand of four games this week.
If an Oilers game sounds like a good way to spend a Tuesday night like tonight, get your tickets here. Our guys are playing the Rapid City Rush starting at 7:05pm, and if our fire keeps burning, we’ll shut ‘em down by halftime.
The Oilers play again Friday night in a double header with the Tulsa Rampage Jr. A hockey team taking on the Boulder Bison at 4pm at the BOK Center. The Oilers take on Texas at 7:35pm.
Another thing about the Friday night game? It’s Ladies’ Night.
And trust me, ladies, you won’t need the discount tickets and free chair massages (no, really – free chair massages every Ladies’ Night with Tulsa Oilers) to feel like you’ve stumbled upon a serious treat.
