Friday at Soundpony. Benefit for Brandy Iliff. Brandy is a local bartender and local concert organizer who is battling kidney failure and in desperate need of a kidney transplant. There’s a suggested donation of $5 and in exchange you get to see seven of Tulsa’s greatest and most rowdy bands (I’m pushing for Rowdy Rock to be a new sub-genre): Northside Hot Dogs, The Dulldrums, Lizard Police, Midtown & Down, Lunar City, Barf Makeout and Rude Amps.

Sunday at The Colony. As one of the bands you’ll find regularly at
The Colony, Pilgrim is a prime example of “The New Tulsa Sound” as featured on the great compilation of the same name that was released last year. Blues-y, rock-y, red dirt-y, the band’s sound has a little bit of it all. And seriously, if you haven’t yet seen a show at The Colony, it needs to become part of your New Year’s resolution
package. There’s great music coming out of that place almost nightly.

Coming up Thursday at Cain’s Ballroom. Taddy Porter could very easily be the next band from Oklahoma to make a major national impact. For that matter, it could easily be Vandevander too, whose song “1000” was recently used on a promo for HBO’s “Weeds.” Basically, you need to be at this show. Especially if you’re a fan of, say, The Black Keys, or other blues-influenced rockers.
