Snow Leopard Days at Tulsa Zoo: A Recounting
Posted by Tasha on February 28th, 2011 in Kids and Families
When there was still snow on the ground from this month’s insane-o twin blizzards, my son and his best pal convinced their moms it’d be a good idea to check out what’s new at Tulsa Zoo.
Since admission was buy one, get one thanks to the Zoo’s Snow Leopard Days promotion, and since we’re always down for girl talk over some stroller time, they didn’t have to try very hard.
I wanted to share with you dead-sexy TDT readers some of the things we managed to do during a three-hour trip to Tulsa Zoo during Snow Leopard Days:
- Stomped around (and sliped once or twice, albeit with grace) in the snow
- Chased and teased geese (of which I am desperately afraid – I blame an unfortunate childhood goose incident)
- Saw a giant tortoise poop in a water tank, an event that’s emblazoned on my son’s little mind as one of the most hilarious things he has ever seen
- Bumped our heads and elbows in the cave – yes, there’s a cave at Tulsa Zoo
- Breastfed a two-month-old baby in public (yay milk! yay babies! yay boobs!)
- Ate a warm lunch at the Macaw Landing Grille, where another diner had deep concerns about ketchup availability
- Attempted to scale the fence around the elephant yard
- Noted the differences in the herbivores’ salad lunches
- Firmed and toned our glutes (at least, the one of us who was wearing those cool SimplyTone shoes was)
- Explained how a snake works
- Chased a quail
See? Told you we chased a quail.
While there’s lots of construction and work going on at the Zoo right now (to prepare for the spring season, I assume, when the Zoo starts to see some serious visitor volume), we still had a good time, and right now you can’t beat the price.
The bad news: Today’s the last day of this promotion. The good news: There’s still time to take advantage. The Zoo doesn’t close until 5 p.m., so if you’re looking for something to do after nap time today, a trip to Mohawk Park is what I’d recommend.
Just promise me you’ll watch out for the geese.

Ha! A river of pee. I’m just glad it wasn’t the other stuff…
