The TDT Mother’s Day Gift Guide
Posted by Tasha on May 3rd, 2011 in Gift Guide
Mother’s Day: It’s an opportunity show the woman who endured what’s been called the worst pain known to mankind so that you could emerge into this world screaming and crying and depriving her of sleep and peace of mind for years and years on end.
(Not that I would know anything about any of this.)
It’s also a chance to show your city some love by opting to lavish Mom with presents purchased from Tulsa’s local stores and merchants. Here are some last-minute, Tulsa-centric gifts I’ve spotted over the past few weeks as I narrowed down my own Mother’s Day shopping list.
Mom Wants Jewelry

Leaf Cluster necklace, made lovingly by hand in Tulsa by Nikki Halgren of Gleeful Peacock
Available on Etsy.com
Cost: $26
To receive by Mother’s Day, order by Wednesday, May 4, at midnight
Check out also Nikki’s Copper and Turquoise Swirls Earrings, her Robot Pocket Watch Necklace ($35) and her Yellow and Turquoise Adjustable Ring ($9).

Unicorn Locket by Erin Wilson of Sunshine and Carousels
Available on Etsy.com
Cost: $28
To receive by Mother’s Day, order by Wednesday, May 4, at midnight
Other ready-to-ship items from Sunshine and Carousels include this amazing statement necklace, this carousel necklace, and these delicate, oh-so-lady-like earrings, all under $30.
Mom Necklace from The Vintage Pearl
The Vintage Pearl is a mom-operated business based here in Tulsa, and it’s a favorite of lots of influential folks (see The Pioneer Woman’s first post about The Vintage Pearl – yes, she likes the store so much that she’s devoted more than one post to it – here). While the deadline to order custom jewelry has passed, those shopping for Mother’s Day can still stop by the store to choose from a variety of ready-made jewelry. Check out the Ready to Ship section on the VP website for options.
Mom Wants Flowers and Goodies for Home
Custom Coffee Mug from Audrey Eclectic
Those World’s No. 1 Mom coffee mugs are great and all, but imagine giving Mom a mug painted by hand by a local artist to resemble the special kids in her life. She’ll hit the roof, and not like that time you played dodgeball in the formal living room.
Cost: $25
Available at AudreyEclectic.com
Order by noon Wednesday, May 4, for Mother’s Day availability
Another idea: Flowers from Tulsa’s oldest flower shop (and, as I’ve heard, Tulsa’s oldest business), Mrs. DeHaven’s Flower Shop.
Mom Wants Brunch
Trying to figure out where to make reservations for Mom’s big day? Check out this list of my favorite Tulsa brunch spots. By the way, you might want to call for that reservation today – Mother’s Day is one of the busiest days in the brunch business, and getting shut out of your dear ol’ mom’s favorite eat spot would waste the mega brownie points you earned with any of the above Tulsa-centric gifts.
Another idea: Lulu’s owner Preeti Waas is hosting the first-ever Mommy & Me Tea at her bakery/cafe the Saturday before Mother’s Day. Look for tea, goodies and crafts, as well as door prizes from area retailers like Figaro’s Salon, The Vintage Pearl, Nielsen’s Gifts and more. All are encouraged to dress in their Sunday best. A separate nursery area will be provided for the really little kiddos. Learn more and register here.
